Membership
Eastbourne Archers welcome anyone seeking membership. However they need to meet certain criteria in order that we can all
shoot in a safe environment. There are two categories of new members:- experienced or beginners.
Experienced archers are those that have shot with a club before, having completed an approved beginners course.
Anyone who has not attended such a course is classified as a Beginner even though you may have had a little experience...
perhaps on holiday.
If you consider yourself in the experienced category and want to join us, contact our Membership Secretary.
If you are a Beginner, look at the
Beginners page, where you will find details of our courses. You are advised to contact the Membership
Secretary (as above) to register your interest as these courses are are sometimes over-subscribed.
As a Beginner, do not go out and buy equipment in anticipation of a course or you will almost certainly regret it. What you
can comfortably handle now is likely to be too weak by the end of the course. Use the equipment held by the club until you
are sure you want to continue in archery and that you have got over the steep bit of the learning curve.
At the end of the course you will be able to shoot to a basic standard and have a sound understanding of safety requirements.
At that stage you will be invited to join the club - but there is no obligation. You may have decided that archery is not for
you... and be glad you didn't buy equipment.
Although we shoot as one club our Juniors form a club-within-a-club. They have their own training evening administered by
coaches who are experienced in coaching youngsters. We have a number of qualified coaches who not only supervise our courses
but are able to assist more experienced members to improve their skills. We accept all classes of bow except crossbow. As
stated elsewhere, we are principally a target club shooting outdoors throughout the year. During the winter months we also
shoot indoors fortnightly. Once a month, summer and winter, we shoot a fita field round.
Our fees are competitive. In common with most clubs they include affiliation to Archery GB, the Region and County Associations
plus the Club subscription. In addition, our fees provide membership of Langney Sports Club which organises various social
functions and includes a large bar area.
